The most recent report of the Brazilian Public Security Forum’s 17th Yearbook 2023 revealed a disturbing reality. Despite an overall decline in homicides in Brazil in 2022, the numbers write down an alarming situation in the Amazonian states, especially in Rond\u00f4nia.<\/p>\n
Rond\u00f4nia and Acre stand out as two of the country’s most violent states. The homicide incidence in Acre increases by 21% between 2021 and 2022. From 2021 to 2022, Rond\u00f4nia’s total increased by 14%, the third-highest increase in all of Brazil.<\/p>\n
Amazonia is home to three of the five most violent Brazilian capitals. Porto Velho, the capital of Rond\u00f4nia, joins Manaus (3rd place, 53.40) and Macap\u00e1 (1st place, 70) at the top of the list of the world’s most violent capitals, with a rate of 42.10 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\n
Looking specifically at violence against women, the statistics are even more alarming.<\/p>\n
Regrettably, Rond\u00f4nia leads the nation in female homicides, and the number continues to rise. Despite data discrepancies between the Secretariat for Security, Defense, and Citizenship (SESDEC) and the Yearbook, it is incontrovertible that Rond\u00f4nia has one of the highest growth rates of this crime in the entire country.<\/p>\n
